Grow in the Dark
Tunnel Hill Mushrooms is a Tasmanian based company specialising in the production of gourmet mushrooms of exceptional quality.
Mushrooms produced at our facility are grown in a historic railway tunnel modified to suit commercial scale production. The tunnel, once a section of the Bellerive to Sorell line was in commission from 1892 to 1926, subsequently being decommissioned. In 2010 the tunnel served a new purpose, producing some of the best gourmet mushrooms in all of Tasmania.
Our humble beginnings were originally growing white and grey oyster mushroom varieties, but as we have grown so has our range, now we produce: Black Pearl Oyster, Elm Oyster, King Oyster, Lions mane, Pink Oyster, Reishi, Shiitake, Shimiji Turkey Tail, and White Elf Oyster, just to name a few. In addition to producing delicious gourmet mushrooms we have expanded into the medicinal mushroom market, and have excelled at producing elixirs. We also stock a range of products derived from mushrooms such as salts and spirits.
We love to show our unique mushroom farm off to the world, frequently holding tours and functions, allowing members of the public to explore our facility and get an insight into the production process. We also feature heavily in Agri-Tourism and other events around Tasmania, it is not uncommon for us to hold a stall at Farmgate market or stock a restaurant at TASTE Tasmania.
Tunnel Hill Mushrooms... So Mush More
Mushroom Tinctures
Our medicinal mushrooms are grown in the cold climate of our old 1891 railway tunnel in Tasmania. Made from 100% fruiting bodies with no fillers, it's the ultimate way to improve your physical and mental health.
Shiitake Vodka
A combination of fresh and dried Tunnel Hill shiitake mushrooms have been gently distilled and then steeped in Knocklofty's handcrafted spirit, resulting in a subtle and earthy vodka that celebrates the best of umami. Try it straight, in a Bloody Mary or as the secret ingredient of a very special vodka martini.
Mushroom Miso
Umami rich blend of Tunnel Hill Mushrooms fermented for six months with Tasmanian made Koji, a balanced boost of flavour for all cuisine.
Mushroom Dust
Our Mushroom Dust is made from Shiitake Mushrooms grown in our old 1891 Railway Tunnel, in Tasmania. It has not only a delicious umami flavour but contains the goodness of Celtic Salt. Great on eggs, roast vegetables, or as a meat rub.
